“Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high-quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. As pupils progress, they should develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to compose, and to listen with discrimination to the best in the musical canon.” National Curriculum, 2013   “Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent” ? Victor Hugo   This course explores coordinating the Music Curriculum and how to make it work effectively in your setting. Through practical activities investigating provision from EYFS and Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2, including Whole Class Ensemble Teaching (First Access), we will consider ways for Music Coordinators in managing Music and to support their colleagues in planning, delivering and observing lessons, in addition to how to assess learning to ensure a progressive curriculum for your children. The aim is to end the day thinking, ‘Hooray! I’m a Music Coordinator!’   Participants will:

  • Enjoy practical music making to understand curriculum requirements
  • Plan activities using the Edsential Music skills grid to understand progression in music
  • Review documents which will support subject coordination
  • Gain confidence in delivering, supporting and observing music within their setting
