Let’s celebrate the fantastic music making that is taking place in local schools.

Children will be thrilled by performing in a large space to a new audience and gain confidence and a sense of achievement.

Teachers will have the opportunity to gain ideas from other practitioners and to have a performance opportunity which provides a focus for work in school. Teachers will be informed about local music making opportunities in the local area.

Schools will raise their profile and contribute to a wider music education community.

What are Music Celebrations 2019?

This is a collaborative project involving local schools celebrating the wonderful, diverse music making which takes place. The project begins with a teachers’ meeting where a representative from each school participating is invited to attend to find out further details about the event. Click here for details and to book.

It concludes with a celebration concert held at the chosen host secondary school, bringing together children from different primary schools to perform individually and as part of a massed choir.

Who can participate in the music celebration project?

Schools within Wirral and Cheshire West & Chester, KS2 – KS5 may participate in the project.  Due to the capacity of the performance venues, each school may bring along a maximum number of 30 children to take part. These children could be from a selected class, a mixture of different aged children or a school musical group.

What is required from participating organisations?

Edsential Musical Routes will:

  • Fully fund the project by the Arts Council Music Grant.
  • Provide the songs.
  • Organise the programme running order.
  • Liaise with the High School regarding venue, timings etc.
  • Present the final performance and provide musicians as required (grant funded).
  • Provide information for pupils about local music making opportunities.

Primary Schools will:

  • Prepare one musical performance to share at the celebration.
  • Rehearse three songs (provided).
  • Organise (and fund) own transport if required.
  • Ensure that every child has completed an Edsential photo permission form.
  • Share information about music making in their school.

High Schools will:

  • Host the festival, providing the venue free of charge.
  • Contribute a performance item to the programme.
  • Ensure that every child has completed an Edsential photo permission form.
  • Share information about music making opportunities in their school.

What happens at the celebration concert?

Schools will perform to each other and together (in the massed choral items) during the concert. The joint massed songs will be led by an Edsential musician. They will be interspersed with items from each participating school i.e. one instrumental/vocal piece per school. The high school will also contribute an item to inspire the younger children.

Can we bring parents?

Due to the large numbers of children taking part, we cannot offer audience seats. Schools may, of course, bring adults to supervise children and are allocated seats according to pupil/teacher ratio for school visits. A showcase concert will be organised after the event later in the year for schools wishing to participate (venue to be confirmed). Parents will be invited to watch if they wish.

Can we take photos?

Schools may, of course, photograph their own pupils and we ask that you use discretion when doing so, and follow your own setting’s policy for use of these images. Edsential may photograph parts of the event and these images may be shared on social media and future publications. A consent form will be sent to participating schools to be completed by the selected child’s parents/carers. Please select the child in advance and bring the completed form to the event.

We anticipate that this event will book very quickly so book now to avoid disappointment.
