This course will enable SEND governors to robustly challenge the Head Teacher and SENCo to answer 6 key questions about SEND provision.

As stated in Ofsted’s School inspection handbook January 2019 para 222/223, the three core functions of governance are to:

  • Ensure clarity of vision and strategic direction
  • Hold executive leaders to account for the educational performance of their pupils.
  • Make sure money is well spent, including the pupil premium.

Objectives of this course:

  • What questions need to be asked to be a champion of the SEND role?
  • Clarification of the role and responsibilities of the SEND governor.
  • How pupils are defined as having special education needs.
  • How do schools support pupils with special educational need and the paper work involved.
  • To consider the data should be available

Prior to the course I will analyse your School Information Report to ensure it is OFSTED compliant
