Thursday 7th March 2024 was World Book Day which is a day dedicated to celebrating the wonderful world of books and reading. The effects of reading on child development include cognitive and emotional benefits, such as helping children develop language skills and literacy, build empathy, and learn how to handle challenging feelings. The first World Book Day in the UK and Ireland took place in 1997 to encourage young people to discover the pleasure of reading.
Due to the benefits that reading has on the lives of children and young people it’s important to ensure that they are encouraged to enjoy reading which is why the day has become a popular event in the school calendar.
Our Edsential catered schools link the mealtimes on the day to the school curriculum to encourage positive food habits and a good environment to try new things in on days that are exciting for children and young people such as World Book Day. We visited Sacred Heart Primary School Moreton on World Book Day 2024 and a fantastic day was had by all.
