This workshop will consider the pivotal relationship between the chair and headteacher and how to ensure those regular meetings are focused and productive.

Using the Headteacher Standards, the Chair’s Handbook and the relevant school / academy Governance Guide you will reflect on the effectiveness of your current working relationship and identify opportunities to further improve partnership working. You will consider the extent to which governors and school leaders understand each other’s roles and how systems and practices promote mutually supportive working.

You will consider the wider board and how it demonstrates its responsibilities, accountability and the impact it has on leadership in the school. You will explore the role of the vice-chair and potential opportunities for development into wider board leadership.
