HSE Emergency First Aid at Work (6hrs)
The EFAW course is designed to introduce a systematic method of first aid for managing casualties. The course is a balance of learning and practical intermixed with scenarios of real situations.
The course includes:
- The fundamental workings of the body, in particular, the heart, lungs and airway
- Recognising the difference between – healthy; ill; injured
- Recording the baseline measurements of the vital body functions
- Introduces a system to cope with all incidents as safely as possible
- Covers the HSE syllabus for emergency first aiders at work according to the ’81 and ’97 regulations and the UK and European Resuscitation guidelines
The Content
First aid training with the REC scheme is easy and fun. The course is progressive by building on each session, introducing new scenarios to test all techniques.
On completion of training, successful candidates should be able to:
Understand the role of the first-aider, including reference to:
- the importance of preventing cross infection
- the need for recording incidents and accidents
- use of available equipment
- Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
- administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizures)
- administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- administer first aid to a casualty who is choking
- administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding
- administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock
- provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters).
Includes AED (automated external defibrillator) practical training.
The Qualification
- Emergency First Aid at Work meets the HSE Regulations and is valid for 3 years
- Ability to maintain statutory first aid requirements for a place of work according to HSE ’81 and ’97 regulations
Emergency Paediatric First Aid (6 hr)
Our course follows the statutory framework for the early years in England which sets the standards for first aid training required for workers caring for young children in the absence of their parents and is appropriate to the age of the children being cared for.
Delegates will be able to practice on first aid equipment including baby and junior first aid mannikins.
The Emergency Paediatric First Aid course will last for a minimum of 6 hours (excluding breaks) and will cover the following areas:
Be able to assess an emergency situation;
- Deal with a baby or child who is unresponsive and breathing normally;
- Deal with a baby or child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally;
- Deal with a baby or child who is having a seizure;
- Deal with a baby or child who is choking;
- Deal with a baby or child who is bleeding;
- Deal with a baby or child who is suffering from shock caused by severe blood loss
Includes AED (automated external defibrillator) practical training
The Qualification:
The first aid certificate is valid for 3 years.
